Orthodontics Baltimore

Many of our patients at our Baltimore orthodontics office have some type of bad bite problem and it often just affects one misplaced tooth. A mild misalignment of your teeth, or malocclusion, causes no functional or medical problems, and usually proves to be of little cosmetic concern. Severe teeth malocclusions may cause serious problems, sometimes both functional and psychological, and should be treated at Spectrum Dental. The experts at our Baltimore orthodontics office can repair a crooked smile and re-align an off-set bite, but there may be some issues to deal with along the way. The goal of orthodontics is, basically, to correct a malocclusion while continuing to promote oral health. Often inherited, a malocclusion can also be caused by poor oral habits, including early thumb sucking or tongue thrusting.

Some other orthodontic problems that we will want to address at our Baltimore orthodontics office are the various types of malocclusions such as, under bite, under bite, over bite, and an open bite. Once you’ve had your orthodontic consultation at Spectrum Dental, we will have specific information about your condition, and how best to correct your problem. When your upper teeth are quite a bit more forward then the lower, it’s considered an overbite, or “overjet”. In minor cases, we can treat it with Baltimore orthodontics, but in severe cases jaw surgery is needed, in addition to the orthodontic treatment. With an underbite, or negative overjet, your lower teeth sit in front of your upper teeth. Again orthodontic treatment will be sufficient if the condition is slight, but in more severe cases, jaw surgery is necessary. The same goes for an open bite when you attempt to close your teeth together and only a few teeth meet. A deep bite, where vertically, your upper teeth overlap your bottom teeth, you will definitely need jaw surgery in addition to orthodontic treatment, in order to be corrected properly.

The last type of bite involves the motion of the jaw going side-to-side rather than back and forth. Your bottom teeth will not meet up correctly with the top teeth on the sides of the mouth, which is caused by your upper jaw being too wide or too narrow for your lower jaw. In this case as well, both orthodontic treatment and jaw surgery is necessary for correction. The experts at our Baltimore orthodontics office will diagnose and treat your condition not only with precision accuracy, but compassionately. Our dedicated staff will explain all procedures in detail, so you will understand your options and know what to expect from your treatment of choice.

If you have an overbite, underbite or another orthodontic problem, you need to see an orthodontist to get the problem corrected. An orthodontist is a dentist who focuses on diagnosing and treating patients with teeth and jaws that are not positioned properly, teeth that are misaligned and/or overcrowded. An orthodontist attends two or more years of education in an ADA approved orthodontic training program beyond the four years of dental school. Spectrum Dental is proud to welcome Baltimore Invisalign dentist, Dr. Tamara Dulan, to our staff. She brings 19 years of experience, excellent clinical judgment and an expanded array of dental skills, including advanced dental training in orthodontics and dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign, oral surgery, root canals and prosthetic dentistry.

If your teeth are misaligned or overcrowded, it can cause a whole host of other dental problems that not only affect your oral health but can also negatively impact the quality of your life. Misaligned and crooked teeth don’t fit together correctly and therefore make it more difficult to clean them properly. This greatly increases the patient’s risk of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease, which eventually leads to tooth loss. Most people associate orthodontics with children but many adults receive orthodontic treatment as well. There is also a misconception that getting orthodontic treatment requires getting traditional metal braces. Many people will avoid orthodontic treatment because they don’t want to wear noticeable metal braces. If you are one who needs orthodontic treatment but you don’t want traditional metal braces, you’re in luck. Fortunately, due to modern advances, there are now other alternatives. One such alternative to braces is called Invisalign. Invisalign does the same job that traditional metal braces but since they are invisible to the eye, they are aesthetically pleasing. You can now get your orthodontic problems corrected without the metal. Avoiding or prolonging orthodontics treatment can lead to more problems and your condition will worsen overtime. Therefore, we highly recommend that you make an appointment with our expert Baltimore Invisalign dentist at Spectrum Dental to discuss the possibility of getting Invisalign. You will be thoroughly evaluated to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign.

When you choose our Baltimore Invisalign dentist at Spectrum Dental, you will receive exceptional orthodontics care from a true professional who has the experience and expertise to help you.
